Chantal, thank you for adding your thoughts to this important topic. I agree engaging students in discourse and use of language is important in every subject. When students have the opportunity to share their thinking, listen and respond to the thinking of their peers they have the opportunity to analyze and evaluate strategies, ideas, and content they are learning. Your comment about mathematical thinking is key. Giving students opportunities to talk and grapple with concepts helps cultivate curiosity and wonder about topics they are learning. This is how we can change the narrative and help students see that they are mathematical thinkers. Thank you for expanding this conversation to include all areas.
